Albion, NE (February 5, 2025) – Boone County Health Center (BCHC) is thrilled to announce the addition of MaKayla Prothman, OTD, OTR/L, to its team of healthcare professionals. Prothman, a passionate and highly qualified Occupational Therapist, brings expertise in pediatrics and a commitment to providing personalized, evidence-based care.

A native of Humphrey, Prothman now resides in Albion with her husband, Tanner, whom she married in September 2024. Prothman earned her Doctorate of Occupational Therapy (OTD) from the University of South Dakota, specializing in pediatrics. Her qualifications extend beyond this, as she is also certified in LSVT BIG for Parkinson’s, vestibular rehabilitation, Trust-Based Relational Interventions (TBRI), Trauma-Informed Care (TIC), and the Child and Adolescent Needs and Strengths (CANS) assessment.”

Her passion for Occupational Therapy was sparked by her work with families and children with special needs, where she saw firsthand the impact of therapy on improving meaningful activities in their lives. Prothman is particularly enthusiastic about pediatric care, including sensory exploration and feeding therapy.

“What excites me the most about our new pediatric therapy program at the Health Center is the opportunity to offer evidence-based pediatric care in an area where it’s truly needed,” said Prothman. “I look forward to collaborating with the incredible team at BCHC to make a meaningful difference in the lives of patients and their families.” Prothman will work closely with other healthcare providers, including physical therapy, speech-language pathology, psychology, nursing, and primary care, to deliver comprehensive care.

Prothman’s patient care philosophy emphasizes tailoring therapy to each individual’s unique needs and goals. For children, this often involves incorporating play into sessions—a purposeful and motivating approach rooted in their main occupation.

Prothman is now accepting new patients. For more information or to schedule an appointment, contact the Occupational Therapy department at Boone County Health Center.
