Building Strong Families: BCHC Launches Young Child Parenting Group

By: Aprill Murphy

Albion, NE (March 4, 2026) – The early years of a child’s life can be filled with both joy and challenge—and Boone County Health Center (BCHC) is offering a new opportunity to help parents navigate both with confidence. This spring, BCHC will host a Young Child Parenting Group, designed to equip parents and guardians with practical tools, encouragement, and support during some of the most important years of parenting. The group is designed for parents of children ages 3 to 12 and is especially applicable to those raising grade school–age children.

Parents are the most important people in their children’s lives, and the group’s goal is to help families raise children who are happy, healthy, confident, cooperative, and responsible. The class will also focus on building strong, lifelong relationships between parents and children, helping children grow into responsible adults, and raising loving and lovable individuals.

Led by Trevor Hyatt, LMHP, and Shanyn Gappa, Intern, the six-week series draws from eclectically sourced contemporary parenting literature, including Love and Logic and The Parent’s Handbook, as well as contemporary psychological approaches such as Adlerian and cognitive behavioral theory. With more than a decade of experience counseling parents and children—and drawing from his own perspective as a parent—Hyatt brings both professional expertise and personal understanding to the group. The class is designed to offer practical guidance in a supportive, empathetic environment where parents can learn from both clinical insight and shared experience. Sessions will focus on strengthening parent-child relationships, building healthy routines, and addressing common parenting challenges.

“Parenting creates the foundation for healthy children and adults,” said Trevor Hyatt, LMHP. “As parents we have a great responsibility to the future.”

The group will meet Thursdays from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m., beginning March 19, in the BCHC Kvam Community Room. As a pilot program, the first series will be offered at no cost. Registration is required, and space is limited to eight families or individuals. Once the class is full, registration will close, so those interested are encouraged to call today. Because each session builds on the last, participants are asked to commit to attending all six weeks.
