Dr. Ochs Offers Revolutionary Jiffy Knee™ Procedure at BCHC

By: Aprill Murphy

ALBION, Nebraska (August 28, 2024) – Boone County Health Center (BCHC) is proud to announce that Dr. Jordan Ochs, a distinguished orthopedic surgeon, is now offering the groundbreaking Jiffy Knee™ total knee replacement procedure. Dr. Ochs, the only surgeon in Nebraska and the surrounding states trained in this advanced technique, received specialized training from Dr. Manish Patel in Virginia in mid-July. Dr. Patel, who has pioneered the Jiffy Knee™ procedure over the past 12 years, has helped revolutionize knee replacement surgery with his innovative approach.

The Jiffy Knee™ procedure represents a significant leap forward from traditional knee replacement methods. Unlike conventional techniques, which involve cutting through the quadriceps and vastus medialis oblique (VMO) muscles, the Jiffy Knee™ approach preserves these critical muscles. By using specialized instruments to “lift” and slide the muscles rather than cut them, the procedure minimizes damage to surrounding tissues. This results in dramatically reduced post-operative pain and a notably quicker recovery.

Statistics highlight the procedure’s impressive efficiency. The surgery itself typically takes just 30-45 minutes, and patients are able to walk over 400 steps within just four hours post-operation. Remarkably, within 48 hours, many patients can perform squats and climb stairs without assistance from handrails. In addition to its faster recovery times, the Jiffy Knee™ procedure is designed to reduce post-operative pain, which is a common concern with traditional knee replacement surgeries. By sparing the muscles and minimizing the impact on surrounding tissues, patients can expect a more comfortable recovery experience, allowing them to return to their daily activities with greater ease.  Together, these outcomes underscore the Jiffy Knee’s™ effectiveness in preserving muscle function and accelerating the healing process.

Boone County Health Center is thrilled to offer this state-of-the-art procedure at our advanced surgery center. Dr. Ochs will be available at BCHC twice a week, on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, for consultations and surgeries. A referral is required from your primary care provider.
