Biography

Dr. Ramaekers has always been drawn to oncology because of the close relationships he develops with patients. He enjoys caring for the entire spectrum of a patient’s needs, focusing not only on their physical health but also on their mental, emotional, and spiritual health. His commitment to every patient is to treat them with the same compassion and respect he would give a friend or family member and hope to empower them to be an active decision-maker in their cancer journey.

Originally from Fairfield, a small town in central Nebraska, and ever since his high school years at Sandy Creek, he planned on becoming a physician and practicing in rural Nebraska. He attended undergraduate college at Nebraska Wesleyan University, and then went on to medical training with medical school, internal medicine residency, and medical oncology/hematology fellowship at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. His career began as a board certified medical oncologist and hematologist in Grand Island in 2009 and he is fully committed to spending his entire career serving the patients of central Nebraska.

Dr. Ramaekers and his wife have six wonderful children, three boys and three girls (as well as Buddy, their Goldendoodle). He enjoys nature photography, basketball, woodworking, fishing, and traveling. As a family, their goal is to eventually see all 63 National Parks. He has found over the years that keeping a nice balance with his own work, family, physical, emotional, and spiritual life helps him deliver empathetic, attentive, and compassionate care.
