Critical Blood Shortage

By: Boone County Health Center

The American Red Cross is facing a critical blood shortage and is issuing an emergency call for eligible blood and platelet donors of all blood types to give now.

New and current donors of all blood types are needed to help ensure the Red Cross can meet the needs of patients every day as well as be prepared for emergencies that require significant volumes of donated blood.

Here’s how you can help:

  1. Make an appointment to give blood or platelets by downloading the free Blood Donor App, visiting redcrossblood.org or calling 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767).

  1. Share this post and let your friends and family know there is a Blood Emergency.

  1. Bring a friend to donate with you.

Blood and platelets are needed for accident and burn victims, premature babies, surgical and transplant patients, and those receiving treatment for leukemia, cancer or sickle cell disease.

Your support can help ensure that blood products are there for local patients who depend on blood products from volunteer donors. Please commit to give blood or platelets now and help save lives.
