To honor the high value Marilyn placed on education as well as build upon her work at Boone County Health Center, this scholarship is available to assist students pursuing a degree in nursing.

Eligible applicants include high school seniors who have been accepted to or who have the intent of applying to an accredited nursing program. The application must include a 250-400 word essay about why the student chose a nursing career, what this scholarship means to them, relevant work experience, and personal and professional goals as a nurse. Applicants are also asked to submit a seven semester high school transcript copy showing academic standing to date.

Two references will also be required from faculty who have taught the student within the past two years and know the student’s academic and personal attributes and abilities. These references must complete a special form as well as a letter of recommendation which discusses the applicant’s motivation, completion of assignments, academic abilities and personal traits related to communication and leadership.

Two scholarships will be awarded in the amount of $250 or $500 to two separate graduating high school seniors. Students with the intent of enrolling in an accredited nursing program will be eligible for $250. Students who have already been accepted into an accredited nursing program will be eligible for $500.

The scholarships will be presented by a Boone County Health Center Scholarship Committee Member at the high school’s honors ceremony or high school graduation, according to the procedure at each high school.
