Albion, NE (February 5, 2025) – Boone County Health Center (BCHC) is excited to announce its first annual Healthcare Career Camp, a one-day event designed for high school students entering grades 9-12 for the upcoming 2025-26 school year. The camp will take place on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM and offers a unique opportunity for students to explore the diverse career possibilities within the healthcare field. Preference will be given to juniors and seniors, and participation is limited to 50 students.

Throughout the day, students will engage in hands-on activities and interactive sessions that provide an in-depth look at various healthcare careers, including wellness, behavioral health, therapy, laboratory work and so much more. Attendees will also have the opportunity to learn from a panel of healthcare providers during a question-and-answer session and gain insight into the role of a critical access hospital. By the end of the camp, students will have a better understanding of potential career paths and the option to explore their interests further through job shadowing opportunities.

As part of the program, incoming seniors who attend the camp will be eligible to apply for a scholarship. Freshmen, sophomores, and juniors who participate will be added to a list for scholarship eligibility once they reach their senior year.

The camp costs $50 per participant, which includes lunch and camp T-shirt exclusive to participants. Students interested in attending must complete an application, which includes essay questions and a reference. Applications are available on the Boone County Health Center website under the Careers & Job Shadow section and are due no later than February 28, 2025. Accepted applicants will be notified if accepted, and payment will be required upon confirmation.

Eligibility is open to students attending schools in Boone County Health Center’s service area, which includes Boone Central, Central Valley, Elgin Pope John, Elgin Public, Fullerton, Humphrey High School, Humphrey St. Francis, Lindsay Academy, Newman Grove, Riverside, Spalding Academy, St. Edward and Wheeler Central.
